The Lila Poonawalla Foundation organized an Industrial Visit where their students got the chance to see four big companies (see gallery below). The purpose of these visits was to get the girls a first-hand experience of a manufacturing and pharmaceutical facility, so they will gain some practical knowledge about India’s industry.
First stop was Sandvik Coromant, which is the world's leading supplier of tools, tooling solutions and know-how to the metalworking industry.
Next, they paid a visit to Atlas Copco India, which holds a leading position in Compressor Technique, Industrial Technique, Mining and Rock Excavation Technique as well as Construction Technique.
Further they have been to Minda Stoneridge, which is a leading manufacturer of Electronic Instruments.
And finally, their last stop was at Lupin Limited, one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in India.
Education on Sexuality
Under the School Project ‘2morrow 2gether’, in cooperation with the Zilla Parishad School Gawadewadi, a workshop on education about sexuality was organized by experts for students and their mothers.
This workshop focused on addressing the issues faced by the girls in their adolescent age and bringing awareness as well as knowledge about the subject. This is a very serious matter since it's not been openly talked about by parents, because it is considered as a social taboo.
The highlights of the program were:
- Explaining the dangers that come from within the family and at such times, how the mothers should support and listen to the girls
- Emphasizing on differentiation between good touch, bad touch and how to communicate such experiences
- Focusing on biological reasons and changes that take place in the body and how to maintain hygiene
- Especially for mothers: explaining how important it is to have safe sex; the dangers of having too many children and the effects on the body; not to discriminate between girl child and boy child and what role the girl can play in their life
The Dental Check-Up was primarily organized to create an awareness regarding dental hygiene. The results of the Check-Up were that 50% of the girls have to be treated for either root canal or filling or tooth extraction.
All these treatments are being provided free of cost by the Lila Poonawalla Foundation.
Another workshop held for the Lila Juniors was about Self Defence to teach the girls tools to protect themselves and how to combat crime.
The objective of the workshop was to educate the girls about:
Physical & verbal aspects of Self Defence
How to overcome fears
How to build confidence
